A special 3 part presentation on asymmetry found in the equine athlete and how to compensate for asymmetry with orthopedic saddle fitting. We dive into whether asymmetry is naturally occurring or man-made, and how it can be exacerbated or corrected through training, saddle fit, and general husbandry. Through orthopedic saddle fitting, we’re able to support the rider and horse in a way that allows and encourages symmetrical movement and development to help correct asymmetry.
We also discuss the misconception of placing an asymmetrical saddle on an asymmetrical horse and how it cannot support the proper development of the equine athlete – similar to forcing a person with one leg shorter than the other to wear shoes with the same heel height as a means of developing an even gait.
